The M3D Crane Quad contains sensitive electronics, delicate mechanical parts, and an electrical heating system.
Please exercise all applicable safety precautions and follow this guide closely to avoid damage to your M3D Crane Quad, to avoid injury to yourself or others, and insure proper operation. Check your Local Supply Voltage and set your printers Voltage accordingly, or risk damage to your printer. After removing your M3D Crane Quad from the box, remove all the plastic wrapping being careful not to cut any of the sensitive parts of the device, such as the cables.
Your M3D Crane Quad should look like this:. Remove the bolts at the bottom of each upright rail, as shown below. Setting them aside briefly:. Inspect your M3D Crane Quad for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. Every precaution has been made to prevent this, however it is advisable to give all the components a thorough inspection before operation. If any issues are discovered, document the damage by taking an image of the affected area and contact M3D immediately.
As long as no issues are discovered, you are ready for mechanical assembly. Being careful not to stress or pull any of the cables, have a friend assist you in raising the upright rails; be sure to align the bolt holes. If you aren't able to hold the upright in place, get someone's help to steady it. Line up the bolt holes that previously housed the bolts you removed and begin slowly tightening the bolts; first hand tighten, then slowly tighten more firmly with the provided Allen Key.

Ensure that all motor cables are connected. These are part of the black ribbon cable. You can identify the correct motor cable by looking at the yellow tags reading 'X, Y, and Z'. The motor connections are made up of 4 wires, while the associated endstop cable is a three wire cable directly beside the 4-wire cable for the respective motor; the only motor without an endstop is the extruder. Be careful not to cross these connections as it may damage the LCD Screen.
Should you find that your LCD cables are not labeled, simply determine which cable is shortestthat will be the cable to be connected to EXP1. In order to ensure nothing is damaged during shipping, and furthermore during the first power on of your M3D Crane, it's been shipped with the Z-endstop raised.

Cart 0.This printer claims cmyk printing by blending filaments. Would love to hear from someone that has one. The quad color print head looks like it should be solid. The support to get this thing working from the software side is unfortunately non existent and the company is a hot dumpster fire. Our printer arrived DOA and we were refused a replacement out of the gate. I stopped communication with them after several months when they were just repeatedly offering to up-sell me a warranty that would not even cover the issue I was asking about, refusing to help me to resolve the problems with their broken product unless I bought even more from them.
To give you an idea, the product was shipped with virtually no packing material to secure it and the frame arrived warped. It also arrived with both fans inoperable despite having paid extra to have it fully tested. They refuse to even work with us to resolve either issue so we are left with a useless product for our money. I really wish I could recommend the print head.
I think it has a lot of potential here. But as it stands it is a horrible investment. I really hope anyone else buys this company out and starts producing this item with the support it deserves. As long as M3D is selling it though, its just a disappointing waste of time and money.

This vase was printed using Red, Blue, Transparent and Black filaments.
The Crane Quad 3D Printer
Technically, there are over different colors within this vase, with a slightly different color on every single layer. With the QuadFusion you can also print with any four compatible filament materials. To be compatible, they should have a similar melting point temperature.
This allows you to easily change between materials within your print, or to blend materials together in as many ways as you can imagine. This allows prints to vary in strength, flexibility, and rigidity from one area of the print to another. This allows you to fabricate things in a whole new way, you no longer need to think of your final product as a collection of separate parts to be made out of different materials, but rather it can be one 3D printed part made out of a combination of different materials.
A great benefit to both color and material mixing, is that you can get more out of less. Additionally, there is no need to worry about painting or post-processing, you just grab your print off the printbed and go.
You can use any standard 1. To solve this problem we developed a few lines of filament that would be ideal for color mixing. To do this we calibrated the pigment size and molecular distribution so that it falls within a narrow range, giving you the ability to get controlled mixing ratios, which results in a wider and more pure color palette.
We wanted to make the QuadFusion available to as many people as we could, which is why we wanted to make it compatible with a wide range of 3D printers on the market, not just our own.
We are going to make a variety of 3D printable mounting plate files available for download to help users get the head mounted as seamlessly as possible.
The full list of mounting head files will be based on backer demand, we will conduct a survey towards the end of the campaign. Common tools for creating and preparing jobs for 3D printing are at a crucial turning point for full color printing support. We are seeing many of these products implementing features allowing basic multi-material and mixing extrusion, but each appears to be approaching the problem in its own manner. With color printing hardware in the hands of many users, we expect to grow the standards and product development in this area.
To date, our development work in color and multi-material printing has mainly focused on the abilities surrounding the STL file format and slicing using open source tools such as Cura, Slic3r and Repetier-Host. With a mix of handiwork and post-processing, these tools generate G-Code suitable for use with the QuadFusion. This team has published slicer post-processing plugins that greatly enhance their capabilities in this regard. This is just the tip of the iceberg, however. Newer file formats e.
AMF hold a lot of promise for streamlining the process of concept through advanced manufacture, and standard features may emerge that we see integrated into most if not all slicers.

Verify that wiring between the Duet 2 Maestro and the M3D Crane including wiring to the QuadFusion and other printer components is correct. Verify that the Duet 2 Maestro firmware is updated to the most recent version.
You can find version 2. O2 release candidate here. In addition you can find the latest version of Duet Web Control here. Be sure to double check that the cold section fan 1 is running at full power.
This is needed for long term heatbreak cooling. Start by cutting your filament flush. You should start with 4 new strands. Observe port labeling and select extruder drive 0 If unlabeled, they are in left to right order and the left most will be extruder drive 0. Select a 20 mm filament feed amount. Be sure to set the temperature to C Not doing this will cause backflow up the nozzles chambers that will block future loadings!
Insert your chosen filament in to Port 0 and hold it at a curved angle. Use the natural curve of the filament to match the curves shown below to minimize any risk of missing the curve path.
Press retract while pushing filament lightly in, this is to verify that things are working and that you're in the right position and chose the right port. If the filament is ticking in your hands, go ahead and press the filament towards the gear while pushing the extrude button.
You should to feel the filament grab and pull through. Lightly hold the filament in your hands and press extrude again until filament stops extruding. Repeat once mote times for a total of 60 mm fed through. If at any point filament gets stuck proceed to troubleshooting Retract and try again. Repeat the above procedure for extruder drive 2 and THEN with ports 1 and 3.This user manual is a work in progress and may contain incomplete or incorrect information.
