I can NOT put my script in the "Build" stage because my validation needs to run prior to the "Dependencies" step, which is not allowed. So I need to run it in the pre-actions stage; unless there is a different solution.
The problem I am trying to solve is that I want to prevent an attempted build in Adhoc and Distribution when the "Automatically manage signing" flag is set because we are not using automatic signing and if the project has this set it will invalidate our profile during the attempted build.
If I try to do a simple run script within the build, my script the validation check happens after the signing has been attempted and invalidates the certificate, which is too late.
So, I'm trying to exit the build if this case exists because I don't have access to reenable the profile and is a process to get it fixed. I have confirmed my results in the prebuild. Is there another way to do this? I have multiple members on my team, which is why I am attempting to put this validation step in to prevent inadvertently making our profile invalid.

We will build a small Cocoa application in Xcode that executes a shell command on the click of a button. Note: I have a new post on this topic, updated for Swift 5. You can try this by opening the Terminal and typing say "Hello world". This tutorial is for Xcode 7. It will probably not change too much with minor version changes, but no promises for major version differences.

Acknowledge those and you get to a splash screen with a few options. If you have used Xcode before it will list your previous projects. On the next step Xcode suggests many templates to build your application from.
Then click next to continue. In the next step you will have to fill in some identification for your applications. Fill your name or organization name into the next field. Our first application is going to be very simple.
Finally, Xcode will ask you where to save the project. If you want, you can make the project folder a local git repository for version control. The Xcode window has a navigation area or file selector on the left, a main editor area in the center and an utility or information panel on the right. There are buttons in top right toolbar to show and hide the left and right panels.
Right now the project itself is selected in the navigation area and the center editor shows various properties of the project. These were already set to useful defaults when the template was setup. There are four files in this particular template.
The editor will change to a graphical area to design the interface. However, there is no window to put an interface visible. There is a list of icons, next to the navigation bar, representing various objects in this xib file. The lowest is a window. In the lower right corner of the Xcode window is a list of objects that can be added to the interface.
You may have to select the circle icon with a square in it to see it.I need use execute a command inside of a script in a Run Script build phase in Xcode 4 using sudo. However, the compiler complains:. Another solution to this problem is to modify sudoers file and add your account to it and state that you should never be asked for the sudo password.
To accomplish this is fairly straightforward:. Of course, this can be a dangerous thing to do, so be careful. I would suggest reading the man page for sudoers and visudo before going this route. Once this is setup, the -A option can be passed to sudo. First option would be to put the part of the script that needs to be run as root in a script file.
This means that script will automatically run as root, which avoids you needing to authenticate to run it just to change it. As long as its operation isn't subject to user input, this should be quite safe. Of course, if you make a script that takes an input argument and deletes it or runs it, or does most anything else with it, that would not be safe. Second option would be to use applescript possibly via osascript.
Applescript allows you to do shell script "sudo command goes here" with administrator privilegeswhich will pop up a graphical dialog asking for a password. The first of these options would be good for an automated environment, though it might not deal well with for example being checked into an SCM, or being sent to another user. The second option would work better with that, but requires a password input every time, so doesn't work as well for an automated build script.

I am trying to write a script to automatically increase the xCode build number on each run. The below code however is not working - the build number quickly becomes huge and is currently ! The script below automatically sets the version and short version string of an Xcode project from the Git repository containing the project.
To use it in Xcode, add the contents to a Run Script build phase for your application's target. You have to verify if the plist has CFBundleVersion. Else this will give the the wrong number as in your question. Here is my implementation:.
